GeeART16 (GeeGuides LLC) This program, which is an online interactive art course, comprised of sixteen award-winning art lessons was eagerly tested by our mom reviewer.  She loved that it was creative and education, but commented that it was a bit advanced for her son who isn't reading yet.  She commented, "you really need to be able to read to use the site, but my son enjoyed learning about the myriad of different artists they feature as well as looking at the pictures and connecting the artwork to the artist.  In fact, after every time we logged on he would be repeating facts to me about the artists he had just learned about.  Very cool.  Made me want to take him to a museum to see the art in person."  She also commented that the course definitely had some staying power.  Days after playing he started recollecting his lesson about Salvador Dali - which to his mother's surprise were all facts that she didn't even know!  She thought this would make a great gift for a child who is reading so that they could experience it either with or without the parent.

Get Ready To Read - Letter Names (Hooked on Phonics) Ages 3-5, $64.99
"My son has been having difficulty learning his letters so we were happy to test this program.  The set which includes a CD-ROM, workbooks, letter cards and games is really a complete approach to helping to learn the foundations for reading.  My son and I used the CD ROM and worked together to improve his recognition of the letters as well as phonic awareness.  He seemed to have fun while learning at the same time.  The best news is that there has been some improvement.  A great gift for younger kids!" reports our mom tester.

coreFX - 3 Levels (Core Learning) Rated E for Everyone, $59.95
Our testers, aged 5 and up had a great time using this software.  Our mom tester reported that "once installed this software required little or no assistance.  My 8-year-old was able to create some pretty cool pictures right away and really had fun doing it.  She also was able to quickly explain to her friends how to create projects on their own.  My daughter commented to me that it was 'really fun!"  The software
is designed for use by beginners all the way to advanced users.  There is a bunch of media including charcoal, felt tips, coloring pencils and many more.  You can use digital photographs, image scans, web graphics and many other sources as a starting point for your creations.  This is a great program that lets kids of any age be artistic.

Nancy Drew: Danger by Design (HER Interactive) Rated E, for Everyone  $19.99
According to our 10-year-old reviewer, "Nancy Drew: Danger by Design is a great computer game to play when you’re bored, on a rainy day, or if you feel like playing on the computer."  She reports that "This game is so much fun, but challenging. It gets harder later on. In this game you are undercover but you don’t let anybody know it. You are working for a French designer named Minette. One last thing, don’t get Minette upset! I definitely give this game 5 stars!"   Platform:  Windows 98 / XP / 2000 / Me

Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave (HER Interactive) Rated E, for Everyone  $19.99
Our reviewer throughly enjoyed this game, where Nancy Drew travels to Hawii as a research assistant.  She's trying to solve problems with the island's ecology and suspects that there si something hidden behind the Tiki Centennials.  The game has puzzles, clues and our tester enjoyed navigating her SUV and using the Second chance feature.  She also gave this 5 stars!  Platform:  Windows 98 / XP / 2000 / Me
