Our day there was unscheduled. My parents picked a private spot on the beach and spent much of the morning snorkeling with the grandchildren. When they weren't swimming, they spent the morning searching for shells in the coves Rockefeller had built that protect the beach from the pounding Atlantic waves.
During the afternoon we left the grandparents for a little R&R and took the children via trolley over to Hyatt
Hacienda Del Mar (a Hyatt Vacation Club Resort) where the kids splashed out in the famed 1,000-foot freshwater river pool and slides.
After a few thoroughly exhausting hours at Hacienda Del Mar, we had lunch at Johnny Rocket's cafe, a 50s-style diner that sits on a pool with the most enormous koi fish I have ever seen! The kids barely finished their lunch when they wanted to go down to the river pool again.
We headed back to Dorado later in the day, again taking one of the very convenient trolley cars. The kids spent the rest of the afternoon in the pool at Dorado, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Dorado is a beautiful place that definitely deserves more than one day's visit.
The Westin Rio Mar Beach Golf Resort & Spa features tropical beauty, luxury, tons of recreation, and impeccable hospitality. Set on 500 acres, this hotel boasts not only premier beachfront but also a golf resort. The hotel has 600 luxurious guest rooms (including 72 suites) that feature private balconies, inspiring views, and Westin's signature Heavenly Bed® and Heavenly Bath®. Having stayed in quite a few Westins, not to mention having worked for one, I can attest that these beds truly are heavenly. I've actually considered purchasing one for my home!
Although we didn't have a chance to stay at the Westin on this trip, we did check it out, and we liked what we saw! The hotel has 12 restaurants, lounges, and entertainment venues to satisfy every appetite for great food and relaxation. A golfer's paradise, the resort offers two championship golf courses: Greg Norman's 6,945-yard River Course and Tom and George Fazio's 6,487-yard Ocean Course. This is also a great destination for grandparents, as they have a great kids' program, the supervised Westin Kids Club at the children's activity center, Club Iguana. Visit their website for special family packages where kids eat and stay free.
