Cruising with Kids - Nassau, Bahamas
By Katrina Hayday Wester

Although our day in Nassau was brief it was packed with fun.  We arrived in the Bahamas at 7:00 am and had to return to the ship by 1:30pm so we knew we had to get up early to make the most of this last destination.

We were ready to disembark the ship as soon as we received clearance and we made our way into the port to get a taxi to go to the Atlantis Hotel on Paradise Island.

The Atlantis Hotel is a massive hotel that is set on 3 miles of beach and in 34 acres of tropical gardens and lagoons on Paradise Island, 10 minutes from Nassau.  This huge resort complex is heavily themed around the ancient myth of Atlantis - hence the name. The extensive features of the resort include water slides, aquariums, snorkeling lagoons stocked with marine life and "The Dig" which is a man-made underground archaeological site.

We arrived there and spent about a 1/2  hour going through the Dig.  Atlantis boasts the largest man-made marine habitat in the world comprising of more than 50,000 marine animals and over 200 species.  Our kids had a great time looking at all the marine as well as checking out the bridges that go over the Predators Pool.

Although we only had a couple of hours there it was a great stop and a place we would definitely like to visit in the future.

During our brief but fun trip to Nassau my daughter got her hair braided - something all the girls on the ship seem to do and although cried a bit she did love the results.  Madison and I also to a quick trip through the straw market which has fun souvenirs that you bargain for.

Our straw bags and Nassau Rum were our only souvenirs from the trip.
