"I don't see my "name" here, so I'll
add it. My son's name is Brandon,
and my name is GayLynn, so we decided to call me "BG" and see how
the
little one would interpret it. He's saying it just fine, so we spell
it
BeeGee. I love the grandparents page!" -- GayLynn R.
"Great site! Our grand daughter calls
my husband GD (short for Grandad) and myself Gem (short? For GM,
Grandma). We already have a Grandpa and a Grandma in the family so
this was mooted so that she would be able to identify just who we
are talking about! The GM was difficult for her to say
initially so she has altered it to Gem which I love also! Thanks"
--Robyn A.
Being a first-time grandma at the age
of 47, I feel too young to be called "Grandma". My mom is called
"Gammy" by all her grandkids. It was shortened from "Grammy" because
my son couldn't say "gr" together when he began talking.
Rosamunde Pilcher is one of my favorite authors. She has a book
called "Under Gemini". One of the characters is called "Tuppy" by
everyone in the village. I just thought it was a cute, somewhat
youthful-sounding name, and so that is what I have chosen to be
called. My granddaughter is only 2 months old, so I may change what
I want to be called when she's older......especially if she ends up
pronouncing it "Tubby" when she learns to talk! -- Karen S.
When I married my husband, his
children were 5 and 7. He lovingly referred to me as Nanner-Di. With
our first grandchild, that sweet girl managed to get "Der Di" out of
that and it took. Now all of the grandkids, my family, friends and
even some of my co-workers sometimes refer to me as Der Di. -- P. Diane Sellers
Our grandchildren call us
Grandsnaps and Baba .....Grandsnaps is of course my husband Mark and
Baba is Me...Baba means Grandmother in Slavic. I had a Baba and my
own Mother was a Baba...now it is my turn with our five adorable
little grand babes running all over the house LOL! Grandsnaps is
what my husband called his Grandfather...and then Marks Father was
also called Grandsnaps by our Children and now it's Mark's turn to
be Grandsnaps as well! We love it ...we are keeping our families
tradition alive and going....when we are long gone I hope that our
grown children will pass the Tradition on and become a Grandsnaps
and Baba to their dear little Grandchildren and keep the memories of
us and our parents and our grandparents alive as well! --
Terri
With the added "step" grandparents,
each had to find their own names. I became Gogee (which was what
childhood friends called their grandmother) not sure of origin And
my husband who wanted the Ukranian grandfather name (phonetically
Gidgee) became Chi Chi by the kids Don't know if they qualify for
your list, but, they seem to have become easy names for the kids. --Deb

When my stepdaughter, Shannon, (we are
very, very close) and her husband told my husband and me that she
was pregnant with the twins, we were absolutely thrilled! I worried
a lot about her because she was very small and thin and I knew I
would not be able to endure staying away from her during the birth
however, I also didn't want to cause any trouble with her mother
(even though Shannon assured me that it wouldn't be a problem). Her
father and I had been together for 14 years at this point yet Sharie,
(Shannon's Mom) could still be difficult sometimes and I always try
to give her the space she needs. Now I was feeling a bit protective
of Shannon, and wondering how to handle the situation, if it should
arise so it helped to think about the grandparent names that the
twins would call us once they were born. As it turned out Shannon's
birth experience was a very difficult one, and Sharie and I shared
the agony together along with Shannon's dad. After the worst was
over and the three of us were relaxed and happy, there came a time
when we were all discussing what the twins should call us. I said to
Sharie that she should be Grandma, my husband should be Grandpa, and
me, well, I thought I would be Granda. We all agreed that it was a
good name for me and so, that's what I am called. I really like it.
Thanks for letting me share my special name. -- Tricia
My grandkids just call me G. When my
first grandbaby was born, 15 years ago, I had just turned 40 and I
also thought the traditional names sounded too old. The kids were
calling my mother G G, so I said "If she's G G, than I'm G" and it
stuck. Now all 7 of my grandkids call me G (even my step-grandkids!)
and so will the new one coming in December. I love it and still feel
young! Thank you, Nancy S.
