Keep on rolling until you can't match the remaining tiles; if you lay down all the tiles you've "shut the box" and won. $49.95

The Dad On The Go

Power Station Traveller

PowerStation Traveller This is a GREAT gift commented our father of three.  He just got this to test, but loves it already!  He commented that "I'm always on the road and I have an iPod,  GPS and a cell phone.  All require charging but my car only has two outlets.  The PowerStation let's me plug in everything to keep them all charging.  Since I'm always on the move it's great to not have to keep switching adapters!  The other nice thing is that it leaves me space now to get one of those portable coolers!" $32.99

PageMark Dictionary™ with Book Light (Franklin Electronics) Here's a cool gift that any Dad or Grandpa will enjoy -- especially if they like to read.  This gadget is a bookmark, a book light, a dictionary, calculator, phonebook and has games like hangman.  It's amazingly slim and lightweight.  It has a very bright light which makes it perfect for reading on an airplane, bus or car.  When you're not sure of a word you enter it in and it gives you the definition.  The entering is very easy and it's set up just like a regular keyboard.  The Merriam-Webster dictionary has over 80,000 words and 274,000 definitions!  Kids who love to read will want to borrow this handy gadget!  Our Dad tester thought it was great -- especially for commuting! $59.95

Human Body Care for Men (Fruits & Passion) Got a travelling dad?  Here's a great gift for the new dad that will leave him smelling great and feeling even better!  This great gift set retails for just $30.00 and contains 6.7 fl oz of Shower Gel, 4.2 fl oz of After Shave, .02 fl oz of Eau de Toilette and it all comes in a great carry bag.  This is a great gift for the dad who has to travel for business.

It's ultra thin, comes in six finishes and can be engraved.  Prices range from $19.95 to $39.95

Samsonite® L45 Computer Bag ($80.00): These days when you buy a laptop computer you usually have to think about where you might be traveling with it.  This bag is lightweight yet extremely durable.  It's compact and well designed.  It was given to a father of two who commented that "the computer is very well protected with a thick foam padding which is what's most important."  He also commented that he liked the "zip open front which accommodates his papers and other necessities."

Another great product for the Grandpa or Father on the go is the Samsonite® Silhouette®   Samsonite® Expandable Spinners 28" Upright.  Do you own one of those suitcases that have two fixed wheels that cause your suitcase to tip over whenever you try to pull it through the airport?  Well if you do, you'll chuck it the minute you see the Spinners.  This bag is so well designed it's easy to see why it's such a hit.  This bag has four - not two - wheels that spin which allow you to easily maneuver the suitcase anywhere.  It's expandable, made of ballistic nylon, has a separate compartment for suits, it also expands to add 2" to your case.  We gave it to our father tester who travels a lot and he said it was "awesome."  He loved that when it was filled to the brim it didn't tip over.  He said "my wife was pretty thrilled with it's ease of use.  She particularly liked the alternate height with handle and the fact it was gel covered which made it soft."  They loved the fact that it had TSA combination locks that allows security to check your luggage and still leave their suitcase locked.  If you need more room, or have to cram in last minute items there are two zippered outside pockets. $249.99

CD & DVD Storage Cases (Slappa) The CD case pictured left is only $14.99 and is a great gift for dads or grandpas on the go.  It has a molded HardBody shell, with velvet-lined interior and extra wide pockets for disc and disc cover storage.  The nicest feature about this is the disc cover storage.  Most CD cases only allow room for the CD so you know have the song line up etc.  This one allows you to keep everything but the bulky gem case.  The DVD storage case is great especially if you like to take your movies with you.  It has room for the DVD's and the cover as well.  That way you can easily organize your DVD's and always remember where they go when you are done watching them.  The DVD case is especially great for dad's these days that have cars with DVD players.  They keep them organized, clean and unscratched!  Ranging in price from $14.99 to $49.99 they are a great gift and can be found at Slappa online.

Dragon Drive (US Modular) Does Dad or Grandpa travel and worry about the contents of his hard drive?  Does he ever want to transfer data or pictures to your computer and they don't fit on those little flash cards?  Well here's a great solution that only costs $99.  The Dragon  Drive is a BUS-powered portable external storage drive system that holds from 20-gigabyte to 100-gigabytes (depending upon the model.)  It's powered from a USB port (so you don't need a power cord) and it's ultra slim.  In fact it's only a little bit bigger than a Blackberry. We tested this and found that installation was easy.  We had some questions and their tech support was great and quickly explained the answers to my questions.  It's very easy to transfer data by just copying and pasting from one location to another and is extremely portable.   We love the fact that we can save our data on it before trips - just in case!  If Dad or Grandpa could benefit from external storage this is a great gift.  20-GB to 100-GB retail from $99 to $279.

OpticSlim M12 (Plustek) $129.95 Here's a cool gadget for a Dad or Grandfather that's on the move.  This scanner is capable of scanning A4/Letter/Legal-Size document and is power cord free.  It operates using a USB cable for both power and communication with the computer.  It's slim, and lightweight and can easily be packed in a briefcase.  It has a cool stand that allows it to be on hand next to your computer on the ready or it can be mounted on the wall with an enclosed mounting piece.  It also comes with a pouch for packing.  According to our tester "it was very easy to set up."  Our tester said he scanned some old pictures and they came through great.  "It was very smooth and quiet.  The scanner grabs the document very easily and it goes through.  Almost instantly it pops up in the software.  It's a great gadget."  You can use it to scan documents, photos, receipts and more!

A-250 Wireless Audio System (Saitek) Any hip dad (or grandpa) will appreciate the big performance in this audio system. First it's sleek, shiny and very good looking.  It has a black lacquer finish accented with red and burnt orange.  The bottom contains the woofer and spot for batteries.  On the back you'll find the A/C power adaptor, and audio input jack adapter where you can plug in your MP3 or PC if you choose to not go wireless.  It's very easy to set up all you have to do is put batteries in, connect your wireless transmitter into an open USB port and turn it on by holding down the button.  Windows will automatically detect it and load the drivers. The on/off button will blink on and off until the speakers are powered up and a connection between the speakers and the transmitter has been established. Once the connection is established, the button stops blinking and glows blue constantly.

How does it sound?  Well the sound is very good for a small, portable system.  It's also a lot of fun.  It's possible to load up your music and bring it out on the deck for music during a BBQ or while gardening -  you can also blast it in your driveway when you wash your car! You just load a play list, and click the play button in the media player or push the play button on the speakers! Want to skip a song you can do that right from the speaker!  Included:  speakers, manual, polishing cloth, USB extension cable, wireless transmitter, A/C adaptor, and a 3.5mm audio cable to connect an alternative music source such as an MP3 player. $129.95

The boxes they live in have magnetic contacts on four sides so that they might connect with other Cube World folks. Boneyard Dominoes  Front Porch Classics  "This is a fantastic set of dominos," commented our father of three.  He reported playing this game almost every night with his daughter.  They loved the classic domino feel, the box that includes pencils and a notepad to keep score.  He said, "it was great to have instructions to really learn how to play the game and keep score."  He thought it was a great gift for a father because it encourages parents and kids (or grandparents and kids) to play together.  He also liked the fact it forced his daughter to add!  $25.00

When I was in college for Hotel & Restaurant Management we attended quite a few wine tastings.  It was fun to watch everyone swirl their glasses, sniff the "nose" and look for the legs.  This brings back some of those lessons.  I love the fact that he refers to the taste as the "money shot" after all isn't that what it's really about to us novices?  This book gives you great information at the tip of your fingers with his "cheat sheets,"  "outsmarting the table" tips and telling you what's on the "star's" tables.  There are great tips and fun lessons, but it's also a fun read. I'm so far from a wine connoisseur, but I've enjoyed the book and will be passing it along to my father-in-law a true wine lover. $18.00

Sticky FingersSticky Fingers Restaurant and Bar a cool company founded by three lifelong buddies makes its fabulous ribs and pulled pork available to everyone online.  My husband was thrilled when I received something that he could actually test!  He loves food and loves to grill and after testing this thought it was just a great idea for a Father's Day gift.  The sampler includes 1 Slab of hickory smoked pork ribs, 1 pound of pulled pork, 1 bottle of Memphis Original and 1 bottle of Dry Rub.  It comes shipped to you in an insulated container packed with dry ice.  My husband just popped the ribs on the grill (according the included instructions) and 35 minutes or so later his dinner was ready.  He and our son enjoyed every bite!  He also raved about the pulled pork which he ate a couple of days later.  At $49.99 he commented that he'd be "thrilled to get this for Father's Day!"

RoadTrip® Grill LXE (Coleman) Don't let Dad go on his next fishing trip, to his next game, or to the street block party with out this great little on-the-go-grill.  This isn't a little coal pit, it's an authentic open-flame grill with matchless lighting.  It has a large cooking surface, "mix & match" surfaces - grill, griddle or stove (sold separately).  It has 20,000 BTU burners that operate on a propane cylinder (that you'll need to purchase separately.)  It folds compactly, rolls on wheels, has tool holders, side tables and grease tray.  Our father of two tester was thrilled to receive this.  He loves to grill and has always felt limited by the coal grills available when he travels.  He said it "cooked evenly and fast.  The grills were easy to clean and the whole thing packed away easily."  He said it was so great he was setting it up on his porch at home since his old grill recently quit working. $188.00

CitriStar (Tribest)The days of store bought orange juice will be over for dad or grandpa once they get their hands on this juicer.  The son of our tester promptly made juice for his father, mother, sisters and friends (with supervision of course) reports his mom.  "The juice was so good and making it was so much fun everyone just had to have some," she reported.  "The juicer is really quiet, very easy to clean and extremely easy to use.  The best feature is the locking spout that prevents the spilling of juice as you go from glass to glass."  The Tribest’s CitriStar has a 50-watt motor, a stainless steel, easy-to-clean screen that prevents clogging, adjustable cord length and under base cord storage, and easy one-touch operation. A great gift for the outdoorsy Dad or Grandpa is the  Samsonite® Sport Backpack ($100.00).  According to our grandfather tester, "This backpack laptop bag has tons of roomy pockets, great foam padding, and even holds my 17" laptop.  I had to cram my laptop in my other bag now this one is great for when I travel.  The straps are padded and comfortable and the back is vented which helps prevent me from getting too sweaty when I'm traveling."  Her reported that he liked the sporty less "corporate" feel.

54 Quart Steel Belted® Cooler  (Coleman)  I don't know about you but my parents have one of these coolers.  In fact, they've had it for at least 30 years because I can remember it going on every single one of our camping trips.   Now when we go to the Outer Banks the trusty green cooler goes with us packed with our staples for the week.  This is the ultimate cooler in terms of durability. Now Coleman has come out with a new model that has bigger steel handles now with rubber grips, a new latch that firmly seals the contents, and it's leak-proof.  For those of you who remember the older coolers, you'll remember that you had to tip it (pretty heavy) to drain it.  Well their "rust-resistant Channel Drain™" allows liquids to drain without tilting! It's just as sturdy as ever which means you can sit on it around the campfire.   My husband wouldn't let this leave the house.  Since we're planning camping trips he insisted we keep this for ourselves.  So, after testing it I can say that we'll be keeping this for at least 30 years and passing it along to our kids - although who knows - my parents haven't parted with theirs!
