New Halloween Books

Where is Baby's Pumpkin? by Karen Katz
We have two other lift-the-flaps books by Karen Katz and they are all great. This one is about a baby who can't go trick-or-treating until she can find her special pumpkin where she collects all her candy. She looks under leaves, under the bed, in the closet, all around until she finds it. The illustrations are wonderfully colorful and sparkly and appeal to those who like to touch and feel as well. A great Halloween addition for babies & toddlers library. - Reviewed by Diana, mother of two. $6.99

I'm Not Afraid of Halloween! by Marion Dane Bauer
This is my son's very first pop-up book and he is crazy about it. He doesn't even need to listen to the story, he just likes seeing the pictures pop up and down! It's a story of a baby werewolf who has a bunch of trick-or-treaters who arrive in typically scary costumes, but he isn't afraid of any of them until he opens the door to three children dressed in a bunny costume, an angel costume and a kitty cat costume and he jumps into his dad's arms because he is frightened by such normal looking trick-or-treaters! An amusing story with fun pop-ups for kids of all ages. - Reviewed by Diana, mother of two. $7.99

Have a Molly Halloween (American Girls)  Fans of American Girl dolls will enjoy this book where they can follow the traditions of girls like Molly and make their own Halloween costumes and decorations.  The book includes easy directions for costumes, crafts and treats.  It comes with some of the many of the necessary supplies.  $15.98

Tell Me A Scary Story ... But Not Too Scary! (Book & Audio CD)

Here's a book I have read every single night at least two times since I got it.  The kids love it.  My son, who is 2 1/2 loves to ask for Mr. Neewollah.  There's a review on Amazon, but I think it's way off base.  I think the reading is great on the cd and the story is fun.  I'm not sure I'm thrilled about a kid sneaking out at midnight and going to a strangers house, but that doesn't seem to be the message that sticks in my kids head What they seem to grasp is that it's a person in a costume not a monster.  Personally, I think this book and it's illustrations are just GREAT!  Another fun book to look at by the same illustrator is Halloween by Jerry Seinfeld.

The Night of the Paper Bag Monsters

My kids really enjoyed this story, especially the illustrations.  Although it doesn't specifically say Halloween there is a special costume party. It's a nice story about best friends fighting and how they eventually  make up.

Halloween Bugs:

Kids love Pop-up books and this one will not disappoint. Behind each spooky lift-the-flap door is another Halloween pop-up surprise. David Carter has created many Bug Pop up books that little hands love to explore.  Click here to check out more Bug Books!

Dora's Halloween Adventure:

Little fingers love to lift flaps, and they also love Dora! Here's a cute little Halloween book that has our bilingual friend searching for Boots's Halloween goodie bag that Swiper swiped. Fans of Dora will not be disappointed!

Hallo-what?

Marceline a little witch doesn't know about Halloween,  and she's confused when the neighborhood witches begin to pick pumpkins and prepare for the holiday.  Fortunately Grandma, also a witch, comes to the rescue.  There's a very brief introduction to the Halloween traditions and folk lore.  A cute story with good illustrations.

It Must Be Halloween:

A cute little book with over 30 prismatic stickers. Light enough to mail to your little ghost or goblin. The rhymes are cute and kids will enjoy the bright pictures.

Frank Was a Monster Who Wanted to Dance

This book is a GREAT read-aloud.  I read this to my kids and they think this was the funniest book they have ever heard.  It's the kind of book you'll easily memorize and repeat for fun.  The illustrations are cute, the idea is fun - not scary, and perfectly appropriate for this time of year. You'll read it again, and again, and again  -- and it won't drive you crazy!

Halloween Treats:  A fabulous book with great recipes and crafts.  Excellent pictures as well!
